Air Vanuatu is an airline based in Port Vila, Vanuatu. It is the national airline operating to Australia, New Zealand and points in the South Pacific. Its main base is Bauerfield International Airport, Port Vila, with hubs at Brisbane Airport and Santo-Pekoa International Airport, Vanuatu.
History
The airline was originally formed as New Hebrides Airways and changed its name in 1981 to Air Vanuatu, after independence from the UK and France in 1980. It has been fully owned by the Government of Vanuatu since December 1987. Vanair was acquired by Air Vanuatu in September 2004. At one point, the airline used Boeing 727 jets.
Air Vanuatu has just celebrated 20 years of serving Vanuatu (December 2007). Air Vanuatu now operates a Boeing 737-800 aircraft on its International routes.
